Sandra Burn Boyd
Sandra Boyd is a native Athenian and was educated in the Athens City Schools staying at the Athens Junior High for her freshman year. She was elected to the Athens City School Board in July, 1997. In addition to serving on the School Board, Sandra has been an active parent volunteer, working with her children's classes by assisting the teachers with whatever they asked her to do. She has found this to be "one of the most rewarding experiences" she has ever had.
Sandra is married to Michael L. Boyd, and they have three children who were all educated through Athens City Schools. Their son is now at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and their two daughters are at McMinn County High School. Each of them are successful students thanks to the valuable education they received from Kindergarten through the 9th grade with the Athens City School System.
The family attends Mars Hill Presbyterian Church where Mrs. Boyd is a member of the choir and teaches an elementary Sunday School class. She has been on the Board of Elders and served as the Clerk of Session. Sandra has also served as a member of the Board of Trustees at McMinn County Living Heritage Museum and Bachman Academy. In addition to serving on the School Board, she is currently a member of the Board of Directors of SouthEast Bank & Trust, the Dycho Company, Inc., and Crescent, Inc.
Mrs. Boyd graduated from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville with a BS in clothing and textiles. She has been employed with Crescent, Inc., a private, family-owned textile manufacturing corporation in Niota, for the past thirty years. Sandra is the Vice-President of Human Resources and also serves as Secretary of the Corporation.
