Brian Heatherly
Brian Heatherly is one of our new Athens City Schools Board members. He is a 1987 graduate of Union City High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1992. He and his family moved to Athens in July, 2004. Brian is presently a Production Control Team Leader in the Ceramic Products Division at Denso Manufacturing. His wife Tracye is a medical laboratory technician at Woods Memorial Hospital in Etowah. They are the proud parents of three children: John Mychal is a freshman at Tennessee Wesleyan College, Dakota is a sophomore at McMinn County High School, and Katie is a freshman at Athens Junior High School. The family attends Trinity United Methodist Church in Athens where Brian and Tracye serve as youth coordinators. Brian also serves as chairman of the Staff/Parish Relations Committee and President of the United Methodist Men. He has also served on the Finance Committee as well as the Administrative Council.
Before moving to Athens Brian was a teacher and coach in the Lake County and Union City School Systems. He then began his experience in the automotive supplier manufacturing sector as an area manager with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Union City. He still, however, maintains a passion for education. In 2000 he was elected to serve on the Union City Board of Education and in 2002 was chosen by his peers to serve as Vice Chairman of the Board. He maintained that position until he and his family moved to Athens. While serving, he achieved Level Two status through the Tennessee School Boards Association boardmanship program and hopes to continue with this endeavor while serving on the Athens City Board of Education.
Brian enjoys spending as much time as he can being deeply involved with the Athens City School system. He has served on the Athens City Schools' Family Engagement Committee and the North City Family Engagement Committee. He has also served as President of the Athens Junior High School PTO. He is a member of the D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) program at AJHS.
In his spare time Brian enjoys watching John Mychal and Katie showcase their musical talents at TWC and with the McMinn County High School Marching Band. He also enjoys watching Dakota play golf as a member of the MCHS golf team.
A quote from Brian: "The mission statement of our schools states that we, as a school system, will collectively provide for all students to develop in a multifaceted way. I hope to work diligently and in the best interest of our children so this can be accomplished. I am excited about this opportunity that the citizens of Athens have given me and promise to do my best."
