The Athens City Schools Board of Education operates the System and manages for its annual budget. The six-member School Board, including the director of schools, meets on the second Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. Locations for each meeting can be found on the annual schedule of meetings.

Do you have an item you would like added to the Athens City Schools' Board meeting agenda?

Athens City Schools' Board policy states that staff members or citizens of the district may suggest items for the agenda.

"For items to be considered on the agenda, they must be received in the director of schools' office five (5) days prior to the scheduled date of the meeting. The person(s) requesting an item on the agenda shall forward any background information to the director of schools' office so that the material will be included in the delivery to the board members prior to the meeting."

›2016:  Chris Adams completed Level 5 in the Tennessee School Boards Association Boardsmanship Program.

›2016:  Chris Liner and Dr. Amy Sullins completed Level 4 in the Tennessee School Boards Association Boardsmanship Program.

2013:  Named a Board of Distinction by the Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA)

2013- Dr. Amy Sullins and Dr. Preston Brown completed Level I and Level II in the Tennessee School Boards Association Boardsmanship Program. 

2012: Mike Bevins is recognized for his more than 25 years of service to the Athens City Schools Board of Education

2009: Named a Board of Distinction by the Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA)

1988: Named the School Board of the Year by the TSBA and the late L.A. “Andy” Walker was named School Board Member of the Year

Former Board members, Dr. Milnor Jones, Susan Buttram and the late Jim Guffey are all past winners of the C. Hal Henard Distinguished Service Award by the TSBA
