September 7th is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Day. ACS staff and students are encouraged to wear GREEN on Monday, September 9th to show support and raise awareness for Muscular Dystrophy.

Athens City Schools hosted the Southeast Tennessee School Board Association Fall District Meeting this evening at the Athens City Intermediate School. It was an honor to welcome TSBA and the southeast school board districts to Athens. A special congratulations to ACS School Board Member Emily Forrest. She received the Level 1 Boardmanship Award this evening.

ACP and ACI students will be coming home with EG Fisher Library Card applications this week. Be sure to return them to your child's school by September 13 to receive a free public library card. For questions, please reach out to your child's school librarian.

ACS Parents: Due to abundance of caution, ACP and ACI students and staff were evacuated from the building due to a false fire alarm due to dust. All students and staff have returned to normal schedule.

ACS Systemwide Fall Back to School Family Engagement Resource Fair is scheduled for September 10 and October 22 from 5-6 p.m. We are so excited about the community fair and resource vendors that will be setup for families. Today we will highlight the following community partners and vendors that will be setup to provide information on health and fitness resources: *Athens Martial Arts *Coordinated School Health *Centerstone *McMinn County Health Department *Nurture the Next *Tennessee Wesleyan Dental Program *UT Extension

ACI will be having a Booker's Birthday Bash and Title 1 Meeting on September 18th starting at 5:30 pm.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Students and staff are encouraged to wear orange, blue, gold or a hat on Fridays during the month of September.

ACS CSH and School Nutrition are teaming up to share some helpful info each month. The month of September we are focusing on the benefits of eating Apples. Tennessee produces close to 9 million pounds of apples etween June and October. Did you know? Apples are a good source of nutrients, including fiber, vitamin C and antioxidants which can help support healthy digestion, brain health, and weight management.
