Athens City Schools is proud to announce that ACS Kids Connection has been awarded the LEAPS Extended Learning Grant for the 2026–2027 school year.
The LEAPS grant competition was highly competitive. The Tennessee Department of Education received 79 applications requesting approximately $20.4 million in funding, while only $13,035,000 was available for 46 grant awards. Receiving this award reflects the strength of the Kids Connection program and its commitment to providing high-quality extended learning opportunities for students.
The student referral and selection process will begin in August 2026. Additional information will be shared with families as more details become available.

Kids Connection students looked forward to their weekly Buddy Partner time. This special opportunity allowed younger and older students to get to know one another, build meaningful friendships, and strengthen connections across grade levels.
Kids Connection students enjoyed Beach theme day by getting to play in kinetic sand figuring how to build things in sand. #ExcellenceIsKC
Our Kids Connection students wrapped up their Food Truck Program with a sweet celebration! After weeks of creating their own food truck businesses, designing menus, and building truck replicas, they enjoyed a special treat from the real TeeTee’s Ice Cream food truck.
Thank you to TeeTee’s Ice Cream for helping us celebrate the conclusion of this fun, hands-on learning experience. It was the perfect way to end an amazing program!
