What an awesome week with summer feeding at Athens City. We distributed over 1100+ meals a day. We are ready for another fantastic week. Come see us daily at our feeding locations. Any child 2-18 years gets a free meal.

6th graders built their own pendulum learning about kinetic and potential energy. #ACMSCougarExperience

Another excellent day at our ACMS Cougar Experience. Our rising 8th grade finished up their hovercrafts with a lot of trial and error in figuring out the wires, and they were able to use their brain power to get them to work. At the end they raced them! To end the STEM day they learned how to extract DNA from a strawberry.
Meanwhile, our rising 7th grade was visited again by Dr. Davis and Seekins. They took them through a Hands Only CPR and First Aid skills course and earned a certificate of participation.

There was a lot going on at our ACMS Cougar Experience today. Student engagement is one of our main goals. From small groups in reading to discussions surrounding problem solving, there is a lot of learning happening. We also had Dr. Long and her students from Tennessee Wesleyan University came and talked about the Kilbride Nature Sanctuary. The students became scientists and helped them identify different types of Lichen on branches and ended with looking through microscopes to find plankton and macroinvertebrates from the Tennessee River. Meanwhile, our older students were able to take the opportunity to visit the STEM bus. All in all, it was a great day.

Today the Athens City Police Department came and showed our students how to lift a fingerprint, what different blood spatters look like, and went through a crime scene! What a great opportunity for these students to learn about forensic science!

ACMS Cougar Experience finished off the first week of summer camp with a visit from Dr. Davis and Seekins from Tennessee Wesleyan University. They talked about the movement of muscles and bones in the body with our rising 7th and 8th grade students. The students demonstrated different locomotive movements and built structures of the bones and muscles.

What a fun day at our ACMS Cougar Experience! Our rising 6th grade students were making their finishing touches on their hot air balloons in preparation for the launch tomorrow. Dr. West and Dr. Kasper from Lee University visited our rising 7th graders. They did chromatography and organ building to make chambers of the heart. Our rising 8th graders finished their Newtons Cradles and were visited by the Creative Discovery Museum where they had the opportunity to learn about and make electromagnets. It was a full and exciting day!

ACMS rising 6th graders continued to work on production of their hot air balloons. We can’t wait to launch them Thursday. #ExcellenceIsACMS

ACMS Cougar Experience students are so thankful for the books from the Let’s Read 20 bus. The students loved being able to pick out their books.

We are off to a great start at our 2026 ACMS Cougar Experience. Our sixth graders are getting started on their hot air balloons which we will launch on Thursday.
